La Grande Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two respected gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable partners in healing! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets deal with issues with many different health conditions, many that Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC sees in our La Grande chiropractic patients who may want to know more!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine esteems frankincense and myrrh for their wide-ranging helpful health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects stopped growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are components of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with the newest research revealing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that nourish tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was reduced, and pathological structure was lessened with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh combo is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC appreciates combinations of treatments to help our La Grande chiropractic patients looking for healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a serious complication of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease, by regulating pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described as being able to activate blood and disperse blood stasis. The mix was tested and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to averting TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to understand as in depth as this, but we want to share the whole picture if only to get to the point that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
