La Grande CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Exercise the Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It is a deep muscle and typically considered a back muscle as it stretches from the 12th rib to the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum produces lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or elevation of the pelvis. (5) A variety of bridge-type exercises are being examined as to how they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s two layers of muscle in order for it to best contribute to the motor control of the lumbar pain and avert back pain. (6) Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC and you can talk about how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next La Grande chiropractic visit to Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC.
