La Grande Chiropractic Care for Spine and Related Musculoskeletal Pain
Pain makes us a bit self-centered instead of life-centered which is completely logical and logically global. People globally experience pain, back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal pain, much of which is spine-centered. Fortunately, La Grande chiropractic care is locally available to help manage as well as ease spine-related pain.
GLOBAL IMPACT OF SPINE AND MUSCULOSKELETAL PAIN CONDITIONS
Data from a worldwide study that followed spine pain (neck pain and low back pain) sufferers from 1990 to 2019 revealed that the “years lived with disabilities,” incidence, and prevalence of both conditions grew significantly. Globally, neck pain and low back pain were observed to burden public health significantly, especially as people get older, being most problematic in middle age and older. Data also pointed out that these two conditions were more frequent in women and middle-aged groups and more frequent in higher socioeconomic indexed countries. (1) Not including low back pain, neck pain, rheumatoid arthritis, or osteoarthritis, the same Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 conveyed that “other musculoskeletal disorders” increased by 123.4% from 221 million to 494 million people from 1990 to 2019. With over 150 different conditions involving bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and the spine under the umbrella of “other musculoskeletal disorders,” health loss including death and disability due to musculoskeletal disorders is estimated to keep growing. From 2020 to 2050, it is estimated to rise by 115% to 1060 million cases. More women are affected by 47.4% than men. The prevalence of these disorders peaked between 65 and 69 years of age for both men and women. (2) We at Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC see all types of spine related musculoskeletal disorders as well as back pain and neck pain. Studies like these motivate us to keep up with spine research to help you, our La Grande chiropractic patient, in the best possible way.
UNDERSTANDING STANDING AND BACK PAIN
Neck pain and back pain are certainly two of our most common painful spinal conditions at Dr. Paulette Hugulet, DC, LLC…and standing is a daily necessity! Everyone’s spine is a bit different. How we each stand is a little different…and that matters! A new study found that greater variations in lumbar lordosis (spinal curvature) like upright standing posture in a little more extension or more prominent curvature like kyphosis may well impact musculoskeletal response as far as spinal loading and trunk muscle force. (3) We encourage thinking about good posture which can beneficially influence your actually having good posture which includes standing up straight.
UNDERSTANDING SITTING AND BACK PAIN
And sitting is another activity of daily living that we all do often without a second thought (until pain makes us to think about it constantly!). In a new study, researchers found that unsupported sitting increased intradiscal pressure by about 30% in comparison to upright standing. Intradiscal pressures were greater for sitting than standing when back angles were less than 20 degrees and higher for standing than sitting when the angles were more than 20°. Knowing these types of spinal responses are critical in the world of occupational health where lumbar musculoskeletal disorders are a big problem.
